• Member of the Senior Center Site Selection Committee that selected the Center at the Heights Location. I was instrumental in identifying a site that all of the communities of interest could support.
  • Helped to acquire the site for the new Sunita Williams School thus preserving Cricket Field.
  • Played  a significant role in the economic revitalization our Downtown
  • Played a leading role in the effort to restore the Great Hall and am a founding member of the Great Hall Concert Series, which grew out of Citizens to Preserve  Our Town Hall.

  • Active member of the Streetscape Committee, which planned the improvements to Needham’s downtown that are now being constructed. These include much improved pedestrian safety and better traffic management and calming measures.
  • Active proponent of the successful merger of the Needham Business Association with Newton-Needham Chamber of Commerce
  • Member of the N Squared (N2) Steering Committee which has successfully promoted the re-development of the Needham’s portion (Needham Crossing) of the N-Squared Innovation District we share with Newton.

  • Had a leading role in saving Needham’s last one-room school house, which is now part of the Needham History Center and Museum (formerly the Needham Historical Society.) This resulted in preserving: the Mills House, the Old School House at the Newman School, and the preservation of the Kingsbury Whitaker House at 53 Glendoon Road by negotiating a stewardship for that property with Historic New England (SPNEA).

 

  • Was instrumental in negotiating a compromise at Town Meeting with the opponents and supporters of the Farmers’ Market that resulted in the necessary 2/3rds vote to amend the Needham Zoning By-Law to allow for the Needham Farmers’ Market to be established in the Downtown.
  • Negotiated for Needham to gain a seat in the Metropolitan Area Planning Commission’s (MAPC) Inner Core (within 128) sub-region where many decisions bearing on Needham’s economic and transportation interests are discussed. MAPC is the official regional planning body for the 101 cities and towns comprising Greater Boston.
  • Member of Team to negotiate Sister City Relationship with Daxing, China

  • Along with my colleagues, have actively helped to build a well-functioning and effective select board that has presided over one of the very best administered town governments in our Commonwealth.
